Cake and Seeiw have been friends for as long as they can remember. Cake is outgoing and has many friends, while Seeiw is shy and barely speaks to people he's not used to being with. Despite their different personalities, they are very close. By being next-door neighbors since they were born, they became an essential aspect of each other's lives. However, as they get older, a lot of things change, and so does the way they see each other.

Iwu and Cake are childhood friends, so close they feel like they are everything to each other. They believed their relationship was perfectly normal, but upon entering middle school, they realize others don’t see it that way. As a result, Iwu begins to distance himself from Cake at school.
Iwu stays over at Cake’s house and discovers that Cake has been chatting with senior Rin. The next day, Iwu catches a cold after getting caught in the rain and misses school, but thanks to Cake’s devoted care, he recovers.
Now in high school, Iwu and Cake are given mobile phones. Iwu has no particular friends he wants to contact, but Cake becomes engrossed in messaging Rin, leaving Iwu feeling neglected. During this time, the school camping trip begins.
Iwu struggles to sleep, troubled by Cake’s long phone calls with Rin. Sensing this, Cake reassures Iwu that he will always be important to him. One day, while waiting for Cake, Iwu is approached at the bus stop by a boy named Thunder.
After watching a movie with Hom, Iwu begins to see his own feelings for Cake more clearly. Overwhelmed and unsure of what to do, he breaks down. Hom gently embraces Iwu and encourages him to take his time finding his answer.
Worried about something Cake’s mother told him, Iwu becomes anxious. Meanwhile, Iwu learns that Thunder, who had been missing lately, had been deceiving him. Iwu cries, and upon seeing this, Cake gets angry and punches Thunder, leading to a summons to the faculty office.
Cake gets angry at Iwu for not telling him about Thunder, but after they open up to each other, they make up and walk home together for the first time in a while. That night, Cake reveals that his father’s job is transferring him to the U.S. for three years.
Though Iwu had been avoiding Cake at school, he decides to spend time with him before his departure. On their last day together, they promise to meet again in three years. Finally, the time comes for Cake to leave.
Unable to forget Cake, Iwu is distracted at school and constantly waits by the computer at home, hoping for a message. Realizing he needs to move forward, Iwu joins the drama club with Pepei to change himself.
Four years later, Cake returns. Iwu enters the same university as Cake and often has to wake up the chronically late Cake. During Cake’s absence, Iwu has made new friends and even helps senior Tao with a modeling project.
Iwu tells Cake, who’s waiting for him after drama practice, to go home, almost pushing him away. Cake is hurt, feeling like Iwu, who’s now more outgoing and popular, is drifting away. Meanwhile, Iwu’s play is finally performed…
When Cake gets drunk with friends, Iwu comes to pick him up, worried. They finally confirm their feelings for each other and start dating. Though Iwu is worried about how others will see them, Cake doesn’t want to hide their relationship.
Cake and Iwu are madly in love, both on campus and in the dorms. When Iwu returns home for the first time in a while, he finds his mother collapsed and learns she has cancer. Surrounded by Hom, Pao, and friends, Iwu stays by her side. Cake vows to be with him forever.
At his mother’s funeral, Iwu’s estranged father appears. Unable to forgive his father for not quitting smoking, Iwu also blames himself. Cake comforts him, asking Iwu not to hold resentment or self-blame. Eventually, Iwu decides to go see his father.
